Proposed Generation Resources

In 2005, the Ontario Government launched two RFPs for Renewable Energy Supply (RES II and RES III).  The first of which calls for up to 1,000 MW of new renewable energy supply from generation facilities between 20 MW and 200 MW.  The other RFP was issued in draft on July 12, 2005, and seeks up to 200 MW of new renewable energy supply from generation facilities between 0.25 MW and 19.9 MW.

In addition, on June 15, 2005, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) was directed by the Minister of Energy to procure for:

Up to 1,000 MW of generation in the Greater Toronto Area West of Toronto (comprised of the Hydro one 115kV and 230kV network and connected distribution systems of Toronto Hydro, Oakville Hydro, Enersource Hydro Mississauga Inc., PowerStream and Hydro One Brampton).

250 MW or more of demand side management and/or demand response initiatives across the province with a particular focus in the Cities of Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton and Oakville.

Up to 1,000 MW of high efficiency combined heat and power projects across Ontario, including industrial co-generation projects and district energy pro

In addition, a separate directive will be issued to procure for up to 600 MW of generation for downtown Toronto.
