Steve Clarke

Steve graduated from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in 2007 from the Honours Bachelor of Commerce program, specializing in the area of accounting.

Upon completing his four-year degree, Steve worked for Langhorne, Irwin, Wharram-Spry LLP. (LIWS) in their public accounting practice. In his role as Staff Accountant, Steve gained experience in a variety of different areas including audit, personal tax and corporate tax serving the needs of clients across many different industries. Focusing primarily on the audits of Non-Profit and Charitable Organizations, he was responsible for reporting on internally and externally restricted funds (such as endowment funds and capital reserve funds) to the Board of Directors, while making recommendations for the preservation and direction of these funds. Additionally, he monitored the compliance of various cost centres with government assistance programs to ensure that all necessary requirements were being met. As part of these audits he was responsible for recommending the implementation of new controls to improve the business practices in place as well. During this time at LIWS, he successfully completed his professional exams and was admitted into the Canadian Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants in 2010 with a CPA, CA designation.

In December 2010, Steve took a position as Assistant Vice President of the Bermuda Captive Insurance Division for Randall and Quilter Investment Holdings Ltd. In this role, he was responsible for the financial management, statement preparation and regulatory compliance for a portfolio of offshore insurance subsidiaries. Serving a client base consisting mostly of U.S. hospitals, he attended Annual General Meetings to present financial results to the Board of Directors and help in the establishing of future operating budgets. At the end of his work permit in 2013, he returned to Canada and joined Blackstone, serving in the role of VP of Finance.
