Introduction
The Ontario transmission system is a network of high voltage electricity lines and transformer stations running 29,000 km in length. This network brings electricity from producers to local distribution companies, large users and the North American electricity grid. The Ontario Energy Board regulates the price charged for all transmission services in Ontario.
In the past Ontario Hydro looked after all aspects of electricity in Ontario.
Today the transmission system is owned (97%) and maintained by Hydro One
Networks Inc. This is a government regulated body that works in conjunction
with the Independent Market Operator (IMO) and Ontario Energy Finance
Corp. to ensure Ontario consumers of electricity are looked after and treated
fairly.
